Who Should Attend?

Potential and existing operators who have received no formal instruction and those requiring refresher training.

Duration:

Half day

Aim

To give training and assessment towards the LGH Training Certificate of Training achievement and provide proof of training for use at the delegates place of work.

Content

At the end of the course the operative should be able to:
• Select appropriate lifting tackle and attach and detach it correctly and safely
• Operate a hoist in a safe and proper manner
• Direct the actions of a hoist moving loads of various weights and dimensions, giving clear and unambiguous signals and in such a manner as to ensure the safety of personnel and plant to determine the serviceability of lifting tackle, and maintain and store it correctly
• Plan work in consultation with others

Knowledge

At the end of the course the operative should have an adequate knowledge of:

• The duties and responsibilities, as required by statute of a hoist operator
• The preferred code of signals
• The effects of load movement on the stability of a hoist
• Potential hazards associated with hoist operation and how to overcome them
• The factors to consider when planning a list
• Hoist safety devices
• Operator problems of hoist control
• The safe use of a hoist
• The maximum safe working load
