All personnel required to operate a Crane.
Duration:
10 days, this depends on the number of candidates and the ratio of candidates / machines per Instructor. Foundation course includes 1 Day Module 2 Health & Safety Course.
Aim
Provide the candidate with the basic knowledge and practical skills involved in operating a Crane.

* Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations
* Other current relevant regulations
* Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.
* Introduction to machine
* Controls and instruments
* Pre shift inspection
* Coolant, fuel and lubrication systems
* Controls and instruments
* How to alter the radius plate
* Methods of extending / reducing the jib length
* Slinging and operating to signaller’s signs
* Effects of shock loading
* Automatic safe load indicator
* Operator Code of Safe Practice
Knowledge
By the end of the course delegates will be able to
* Operate the machine safely and correctly in accordance with manufacturers’ instructions and accepted good practice.
* Carry out a pre-shift inspection.
* Operate the crane safely in response to given tasks using outriggers where applicable.
* Respond to and work with a Slinger using recognised hand signals.
* Recognise defects and hazards that affect crane motions.
* Have an understanding of responsibilities under Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 & other current relevant legislation.
Additional Information
Eligible companies are able to claim grants for this training, which will pay for a substantial amount if not all of the training costs, as this course is CITB approved for grant purposes.
